Pasadena City Hall

Historic Resources Group was the historic preservation consultant on the seismic retrofit and rehabilitation of the City of Pasadena’s 1927 City Hall, a renowned landmark building listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The project included installation of structural base isolators to allow the building to withstand earthquake activity, new building infrastructure, and restoration of the building’s important character-defining features.

Under the direction of HRG Principal Architect Peyton Hall, FAIA, HRG monitored the construction process and provided treatment recommendations for the preservation of the building’s significant features to ensure that the project met the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and was compliant with both the Federal Emergency Management Administration and California Office of Historic Preservation requirements. Completed in 2007 after a three-year process, City Hall’s restoration continued the ongoing revitalization of central Pasadena. The project has been recognized by the Los Angeles Conservancy, the California Preservation Foundation, and the American Planning Association.
